InterServer Price Lock vs Standard: Which Plan Should You Actually Buy?

Short answer: Buy Price Lock at $5.00/month if you expect to keep the site longer than about two years. Buy Standard at $2.50/month only if the site is short-term or experimental, because Standard renews at $7.00/month. The crossover falls at roughly month 27. Both plans include the same storage, bandwidth, email, SSL and migration — the only thing the extra $2.50 buys is a rate that never moves.

There is no feature difference. Anyone telling you Price Lock is the “better” plan on specification is guessing — it is the same hosting with a different billing promise.
Where the crossover actually falls
Standard is cheaper for the first year and more expensive after it. Assuming a 12-month intro term:

After month 27 the gap widens by $2 every month and never closes again, because one price moves and the other does not.
Which one fits you
Buy Price Lock if
- The site is a business, a portfolio or anything you expect to still run in three years
- You do not want to diarise a renewal date or re-negotiate later
- You have been burned by a renewal hike before and want that variable removed
Buy Standard if
- It is a test, a client staging site, or a project with a known end date
- You are genuinely comparing hosts and may move within the year
- You want the lowest possible first-year outlay and will accept $7/mo afterwards
You cannot upgrade between them
This is the part most reviews leave out. Moving from Standard to Price Lock is not a plan change inside your account — it is a new order. You place the Price Lock order, migrate the site across (InterServer’s migration is free), then cancel the old plan. It is not difficult, but it is not one click either, so it is worth choosing correctly at signup.
How to confirm this yourself
Put either plan in the cart and read the line under the plan name that says “Renews at $X.XX/month”. InterServer prints it before you enter payment details. $7.00 means Standard; $5.00 means Price Lock. A coupon changes the first term only — it never changes that line.
