What Does InterServer Actually Cost Over 1, 3 and 5 Years?
Last verified at InterServer checkout: 1 September 2026 · By Vikash Sharma
Short answer: Over three years InterServer shared hosting costs $180 on the Price Lock plan or $198 on the Standard plan; over five years it is $300 versus $366. The gap exists because Standard renews from $2.50 to $7.00/month while Price Lock stays at $5.00/month. VPS and dedicated servers are priced separately and are not covered by the Price Lock.
Shared hosting: the full picture
Almost every hosting cost comparison you will read quotes the intro price and stops. That is the number you pay once. Here is what you actually hand over, assuming a 12-month intro term and no cancellation:
| Plan | Year 1 | 3 years | 5 years |
|---|---|---|---|
| Price Lock — $5.00/mo flat | $60.00 | $180.00 | $300.00 |
Price Lock with 1PENNYDEAL | $55.01 | $175.01 | $295.01 |
| Standard — $2.50/mo → $7.00/mo | $30.00 | $198.00 | $366.00 |
| Standard via $1-for-3-months | $23.50 | $191.50 | $359.50 |
Read that table twice. The plan with the lower advertised price is the more expensive one from year two onwards, and the advertised price is the only number most comparison sites show you.
Cost per month, averaged over the term
| Plan | Avg/mo over 1 yr | Avg/mo over 3 yrs | Avg/mo over 5 yrs |
|---|---|---|---|
| Price Lock | $5.00 | $5.00 | $5.00 |
| Standard | $2.50 | $5.50 | $6.10 |
Price Lock is the only one of the two with a flat line. That is the entire product.
What about VPS and dedicated?
Different products, different rules. As listed on InterServer’s own pages when we last checked them on 21 July 2026, VPS starts from $3/month and dedicated servers from $49/month. Neither carries the Price Lock guarantee — each renews at whatever rate is listed for it. If a page tells you your dedicated server price is locked for life, it is repeating the shared-hosting promise on the wrong product.
Those two figures are older than the shared-hosting numbers above, which we read at checkout on 1 September 2026. Treat them as a starting point and confirm in the cart.
Costs this table does not include
- Domain registration — billed separately, and it renews at its own rate
- Taxes — added at checkout depending on your country
- Add-ons you opt into, such as extra backups or dedicated IPs
Storage, bandwidth, email accounts, SSL and site migration are included on both shared plans, so they add nothing to the totals above.
Frequently asked questions
Is InterServer cheap long term?
On the Price Lock plan, yes — $5.00/month for as long as you keep it, which works out at $300 over five years. On the Standard plan it is cheap for a year and mid-priced after that, at $366 over five years.
Does the price go up every year?
No. Standard steps up once, from the intro rate to $7.00/month at the first renewal, and then stays there. Price Lock does not step up at all.
Can I pay monthly?
Yes. InterServer bills shared hosting monthly, which is unusual in an industry that pushes three-year prepayments to disguise renewal rates. It also means switching away costs you at most one month.
