Does InterServer Raise Prices on Renewal? Standard vs Price Lock (Verified at Checkout)
Last verified at checkout: 1 September 2026 · By Vikash Sharma
Short answer: It depends which plan you buy. InterServer’s Standard Web Hosting plan is $2.50/month on the intro offer and renews at $7.00/month. The separate Price Lock Web Hosting plan costs $5.00/month and never increases for as long as your account stays on it. The “never raises prices” claim you see on most review sites is true only for the Price Lock plan, not the $2.50 plan. Both figures were read from InterServer’s own checkout page on 1 September 2026.
Which InterServer plan actually has the price lock?
InterServer sells two shared hosting products that look almost identical on the surface, and most reviews blur them together. Here is the exact split as it appears at checkout:
| Plan | Intro price | Renewal price | Price locked? |
|---|---|---|---|
| Standard Web Hosting | $2.50/mo (or $1 for the first 3 months on promo) | $7.00/mo | No |
| Price Lock Web Hosting | $5.00/mo ($0.01 first month with code 1PENNYDEAL) | $5.00/mo — for life | Yes, while the account stays on this plan |
Both plans include unlimited SSD storage, unlimited transfer, unlimited email accounts, free SSL, free migration and the same control panel. The difference you are paying for is the renewal guarantee. You can compare them on the standard web hosting page and the Price Lock page.
Why do so many reviews say InterServer never raises prices?
Because for years it was true across the board. InterServer’s Price Lock Guarantee was originally attached to the standard shared plan, and reviews written between 2021 and 2024 still repeat that. InterServer has since made Price Lock a separate product and set the standard plan’s renewal at $7. Any page telling you today that $2.50 is locked for life — including older pages on this site, which we are correcting — is quoting an arrangement that no longer exists.
You will also see the opposite claim, that InterServer renewals jump by 220%. That figure comes from dividing $7 by $2.50 on the standard plan and ignoring the Price Lock plan entirely. Both extremes miss the real answer: one plan renews higher, the other does not.
Is the $5 Price Lock plan cheaper than the $2.50 plan long term?
Yes, for anyone keeping a site longer than about two years. Assuming a 12-month intro term on the standard plan:
| Period | Standard ($2.50 → $7) | Price Lock ($5 flat) | Cheaper |
|---|---|---|---|
| Year 1 | $30.00 | $60.00 | Standard |
| Year 2 | $84.00 | $60.00 | Price Lock |
| Year 3 | $84.00 | $60.00 | Price Lock |
| 3-year total | $198.00 | $180.00 | Price Lock by $18 |
| 5-year total | $366.00 | $300.00 | Price Lock by $66 |
Break-even lands around month 27. Before that the standard plan is cheaper; after that Price Lock pulls ahead by $2 every month and never stops. If you are building something you intend to keep, buy Price Lock from day one — switching later means placing a new order, not upgrading the existing one.
How to check the renewal price yourself before you pay
- Open the plan page and click Order.
- On the cart page, look under the plan name for the line reading “Renews at $X.XX/month”. InterServer prints this before you enter payment details.
- If it says $7.00 you are on the Standard plan. If it says $5.00 you are on Price Lock.
- Apply your coupon and confirm the renewal line did not change — coupons discount the first term only.
Frequently asked questions
Does InterServer raise prices after the first year?
On the Standard Web Hosting plan, yes — from $2.50 to $7.00 per month. On the Price Lock Web Hosting plan, no — it stays at $5.00 per month for as long as the account remains on that plan.
Is InterServer’s Price Lock Guarantee real?
Yes, but it is a specific $5/month plan, not a site-wide policy. The guarantee holds while you keep the account on the Price Lock plan; cancelling and re-ordering later would be at whatever price is current then.
Can I move from the $2.50 plan to the Price Lock plan?
Not as an in-place upgrade. You place a new Price Lock order and migrate the site using InterServer’s free migration, then cancel the standard plan.
Does the Price Lock apply to VPS or dedicated servers?
No. Price Lock is a shared hosting product. VPS and dedicated servers each renew at their own listed rates.
Does the 1PENNYDEAL coupon work on the Price Lock plan?
Yes. Applied at checkout on 1 September 2026 it reduced the first month of the Price Lock plan to $0.01. From month two the price is $5.00 and does not change.
Verdict
InterServer does raise the price on its cheapest plan, and it does not on its Price Lock plan. If you want the guarantee everyone talks about, buy the $5 plan. For performance and support detail, see the full InterServer review.
